Swachh Bengaluru

Great initiated by Manoj P Kudtharkar to keep Swachh Bengaluru
— I have always been an advocate of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started by the Modi Government and I believe it is a necessary mandate in our country.
I’ve always preferred to lead by example, and following suit, I have arranged multiple cleanathons or cleaning drives in our city.
Two of the important ones were:
-
- During Dussehra and Diwali , we devised a successful wet waste management plan. We all know that in and around the Bangalore area, lots of vegetable waste is generated in markets and residential areas in terms of decorations. Could be banana tree trunks, food waste and so on. We collected around 30-40 tonnes of this kind of biodegradable waste and instead of dumping it elsewhere, we transported it to places like the Goshalla, where it can be reused or recycled for better use. I’ve always wanted to devise optimum Solutions rather than just solve a problem halfway.
- During the festival of Makar Sankranti and Pongal this year, we collected wasted sugarcane in tonnes and managed the waste in a similar fashion. Rapid growth in urban population coupled with economic growth and rise in community living standards have resulted in generation of huge quantities of municipal solid waste posing serious problem to municipalities, and corporations in terms of collection and disposal of solid waste. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has to be implemented vigorously to combat this issue.
